Know About Various Types Of Microphones Through This Post!!!

A microphone is a modern tool or device in which airborne sound waves are transformed into electrical signals that may be previously stored on a recording medium or delivered via speakers. The wireless microphone enables several audio recording devices for a range of communication such as music performance, speech, and music recording applications.

The microphone has various applications in telephones, hearing aids, public address systems for concert halls and public gatherings, motion picture production, live and recorded audio engineering. Other fields like sound recording, two-way radios, megaphones, and radio and television transmission have few uses for microphones.

Besides its basic uses, microphones are a part of various events. In this article, we will briefly discuss some types of microphones. Read on to know what these are:

Types of microphone:

On the basis of intended purposes, microphones have a few types given below:

● Omnidirectional Microphones

Omnidirectional microphones are good for capturing all sounds in a space, but they struggle to isolate a single topic from the surrounding noise. They are primarily used when you want the spectators to listen from all directions. They are mainly used by musicians and bands.

● Directional Microphones

Directional microphones aka unidirectional microphones (transmit sound only in one direction) are advantageous when there is a lot of background noise since they are better at picking up sounds coming from a certain direction.

● Bidirectional Microphones

Because they can capture sounds from two directions, bidirectional microphones are perfect for capturing conversations. Such microphones are based on the pressure gradient principle. They are widely used at various places including meetings, seminars, conferences, etc

● Condenser Microphones

A diaphragm serves as one of the capacitor’s plates in condenser microphones, which rely on the variable electrical charge of capacitors. It is a type of microphone that is specially designed for delicate noises and aid in picking up vocals.

● Ribbon Microphones

A thin, magnetically hung strip of conductive metal is used to create ribbon microphones. Typically, nanofilm, duralumin, or aluminum are used to make the ribbon. The ribbon of the microphone vibrates in response to sound waves, producing an electrical signal. They are particularly used for capturing sound of any equipment, ambiance of the room and any voice.

● Wireless microphone

The type of microphone that can transmit sound over distance via wifi or bluetooth signal is known as wireless microphone. As the name suggests, such types of microphones can work wirelessly and can transmit sound over a certain range.
